- /sindakat/An association of individuals, formed for the purpose of conducting and carrying out some particular business transaction, ordinarily of a financial character, in which the members are mutually interested. An organization formed for some temporary purpose, such as the organization of a real estate trust and the sale of shares to the public. Syndicates may exist as corporations or partnerships (either general or limited). A group of investment bankers who together underwrite and distribute a new issue of securities or a large block of an outstanding issue. A syndicate is formed in such instances because the capital commitment or risk involved for any single investor, financial institution or broker is too great.
